Since it's still under warranty and it broke, you can send it to them and they will repair it for free. If you want a new PS3 by telling them you can't connect, you need to give a reason. (Ethernet connector doesn't work, WiFi can't connect, etc.) But if you do that I think they will just repair it. Just try and see what you get. Hang up in the middle if its not working out.
