You would probably be better off buying one off ebay where the seller tells you what firmware it is on; because by now, most new ps3s in retail stores are a higher firmware.

Your better off finding a ps3 on ebay which is specific to the the firmware you want.

A new PS3 will ask for 3.60, buy a pre owned PS3 there most likey to be on 3.55

i work at walmart all of our ps3s are stock 3.56 when a store sells all there ps3s in stock sonys warehouse sends us another crate of systems and they are mostly newer firmwares

Craigslist is the best place.

They can't say anything bad to you about asking what firmware it is on....
