Post: Ps3 Problems, infinite system update loop

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hmm, seems that my ps3 is stuck in an update loop. I had gotten the YLOD before and repaired it on my own as I did not wanna fess up to Sony and pay $150. I had a 3.55 jb on and I wanted to go back to normal 3.55 as my wireless was not being detected by it, with me thinking it was a firmware problem. I put it in recovery mode, loaded the firmware and around 76% it came up with error code 8002F1F9. Every time I restart my ps3 it automatically starts updating again, I saw that some people took out their HDD to fix the problem, so i restarted it and took it out at 1%, It eventually got to 99% and sat there for 5 minutes and came up with the error code again. any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks!

Are you high?
It seems this error mostly occurs after failed OS updates. Most pieces of advice seem to be to try to reinstall the latest OS update.

Perhaps a more knowledgeable user will confirm, but maybe try this:

To access the recovery options, while the PS3 is in standby, hold down the power button and keep holding it down until there are two beeps. You should then get following options:

1. Restart System
2. Restore Default Settings
3. Restore File System
4. Rebuild Database
5. Restore PS3 System
6. System Update

I think the options are in order of how much they actually do, so option 1 merely attempts a system reset, whilst option 5 totally reformats the machine to a new state. Option 4 results in the loss of playlist and message data, but should not result in the loss of any other data.
I would then say that, if it's possible, download the latest OS update to a USB stick, and reinstall from that if required by the PS3.

However, like I said, I've not attempted any of these before, so perhaps getting a second opinion would be a good idea.

So basically this happened because the update failed, so it is you probably have to update to 3.66 or try reinstall 3.55 OFW. EDIT- By reinstalling 3.55 OFW I meant use a usb and use the update via storage media.

Do what the user above me said. If that doesn't work, it would be in your best interest in buying a new one or sending it in.

Tip, if you have the newer model, buy a new ps3 at Costco, replace their with yours and return after a few days. When you return, tell them that it was doing an update and it stopped working and that you are going to switch over to the XBox instead. This should then stop them from asking any more questions. Now that it is returned enjoy your new ps3.
