Sony has been offering classic Playstation titles on the console since the PS3's debut, to compete with Nintendo's retro gaming downloads available on the Wii.

However, as the capacities of PS3 hard drives have grown, there has been demand for larger game downloads, and Sony has started testing the waters will full downloadable PS2 games.

The company has announced plans to bring numerous additional PS2 titles to the system via the digital download Playstation Store platform.

In this particular slate of games, Sony's angle is that they were critically acclaimed but never managed to strike success at retail.

Such titles include the role-playing games GrimGrimoire and Odin Sphere - two games that launched near the end of the PS2's life cycle and were thus regrettably overlooked by many. They have since become sought after collectibles.

Other well-reviewed but poorly sold games on tap for release include God Hand, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, and Ring of Red.

All of these PS2 titles will be released on the Playstation Store this week.
