(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); John Smedley, president Of Sony Online Entertainment, has said that the attack launched on the PlayStation Network yesterday is not connected to the April hack.
The attack did not utilize any data that was stolen during the April PlayStation network attack according to Smedley, when asked for further clarification regarding the recent attack which disabled around 93,000 PSN accounts.
“It’s just simple math. There was such a small percentage of successes. They were attacking with a large number. Because of that, the math tells us it wasn’t,” he said. ”We’ve said publicly when we were compromised before that the information is out there and could have been used. That was obviously the first thing we looked at.”
“Then we did the mathematical analysis and said, ‘Obviously that’s not what happened.’ I’m not going to say it’s impossible. We just think that’s not the most likely case,” he added.
EGM’s TAKE: It wasn’t a major attack and only 0.01% of accounts were affected so this shouldn’t cause the company too much harm and should be forgotten pretty quickly.
