try deleting everything to do with mw2 game data AND save data (this will reset campaign progress , but not online level),
turn off your ps3.
hold the power button till you hear 2 beeps , this will take you into the recovery menu , then select "Restore File System" once this is done turn your ps3 back off.
then turn on normally , check mw2 disc is clean then reinstall update and start game.

Deleting the save data won't do anything.. just saying.... /

sounds weird but save data once caused my skyrim to lock at a certain loading screen , just thought it might effect it.

Actually sometimes it makes a difference. Its case by case though, meaning that it's not always going
to work.

Delete and re-install the patch, if that doesn't work, delete save data, if that still doesn't work it is most likely the disc.
