yeah you can use hdd from ps3 and most from laptops too just look for the 2.5 model and it will be compatible

really? so if i pulled out a toshiba 2.5 hdd and stuck it in my ps3, it would turn on normally?

Don't know about that you may need to format it first I tried that and got an error..

yeah thats right i recently upgraded my 3.55's memory from 40gb hdd to a 160gbhdd out of my m8's broken laptop
it formatted which is kind of obvious as it needs to be reformatted for ps3 use....

Just make sure it is 9.5mm or else you'll need to make adjustments if it's 12.55mm.

Yep only issue you need to reformat the HDD.

Yes but your need to reformat the HDD to get it working. And if you put it back into your laptop your laptop would ask you to reformat it.
