(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I was wondering a good type of external hard drive to buy for my ps3. Would it be better to buy one with a power source or one thats portable? Mainly going to use the hard drive for movies.

Well first make sure that the device is a FAT32 as the PS3 can't read newer types of devices. If you want to store movies on it, then I suggest getting one thats portable.

Doesn't matter if it's fat32 or not since he can format it to make it a fat32 . .

I prefer ones with a power source solely because it allows the hard drives to spin faster which gives you much better transfer times. If you are going to be moving it a lot, however, it starts to become a hassle

oh yeah I know that it has to be FAT32. So ill reformat it to that with the program i have. Oh alright does the portable ones last as long as the ones that come with a power supply? I've only bought external HDD with a power supply so I'm not familiar with portable ones.

I have an external 500g, that I mainly watch movies on. It stores alot of things too. I just use it weekly if not daily for movies on the PS3. It does have a power source, but I just bought a long usb cord for it and use a usb stick when doing things like game saves, updates, themes, etc.
