(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey, i was playing my PS3 the other day, and it just shuts off while im in a Black Ops lobby. i unplug the power plug, and plug it back in. the red light on the on/off button turns on, so my worries are gone. then, i press it, and it turns on, then shuts back off like .5 seconds after. i did research and found out my power supply is dead. so how do i fix this? do i bring it to gamestop? if i have to get a new PS3, will i be able to use my old hard drive? cause my current one is 600gb and has 495 left. so, please help me guys <3

I'm not 100% if it's fixable, probably not what you wanted to hear, but if you were to buy a new ps3, then you would be able to use your old hardrive, you will just have to re-format it. Happy

Sounds like the same thing that happened to mine, I tried the following on the video because the exact same thing is happening to mine with no luck. I might send it in to sony to fix for $100.

well you can always try and replace the power supply but in the end if that doesnt work then your gpu or cpu has failed. your hdd will be reformatted when placed on to another ps3. rlod, glod, and ylod can all be the exact same problem, it just all depends on what exactly was damaged. but best fix for this is to buy a new / or used one.

See if you can find a cheap power supply on eBay and install it. If that fails, then you know it is something different within the motherboard like alchybear has said.

Yes you can, it's free if it hasn't been a year since you purchased it. Otherwise you're screwed like me, it cost me $99 plus tax to repair it.

If you want to fix it yourself, first tell me the CECHXXX model number which is on the back of the console. I'll see what power supply you will need to get.
Most likely will need an APS model power supply.
