Post: Market Research for the PS3
03-14-2013, 02:04 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hello NGU. I was assigned a project in marketing class today and was told to do market research on a product of my choice. I chose the PS3, hence I am writing this thread. You don't need to help, but all help is greatly appreciated.

Here are the few questions I have for you.

  1. Are you sastified with the product?
  2. What changes would you like to see in the product?
  3. Is the (current) product price competitive?
  4. Are the current promotional strategies effective?
  5. Where is the product in it's life cycle? Does it need updating?
  6. Are there any other things you would like to add?
  7. On a scale of 1-10, rate the PS3.
  8. (Relates to the earlier life cycle question)How long do you think the PS3 will live AFTER the release of the PS4?
  9. How often do you use the product?
  10. When you start using it, how long do you use it for (in hours, or days if your that dedicated)
  11. Since you bought it, how much more money, not including games, have you put into the product? (Some may be uncomfortable answering that question. That is fine)

I do realize that the PS4 is going to be out soon, but there isn't a lot of information out on it yet. Some of these questions seem obviously basic but they are just the basic recommended questions. Feel free to add your own opinions.

1. Overall yes, even though it has its flaws.
2. I'd add cross game chat and a better interface.
3. Ehh, kind of.
4. I'm not aware of any right now.
5. Well, the PS3 has been updated from the PHAT, Slim and now the Super Slim.
6. Not that I can think of right now.
7. 7/10
8. It will slowly die down like the PS2 did with the PS3 coming out. People are going to wait for the price to drop most likely.
9. A few times each week.
10. I used to play nonstop each day, but I've started to slow down playing it.
11. I've easily put $1k+ into my PS3(s)

Hope this helps you.

Here are the few questions I have for you.

  1. Are you sastified with the product? Overall yes, few minor issues but as a whole PS3 is a great product
  2. What changes would you like to see in the product? I would like to be able to have cross game chat because me and my friends don't always play the same game as I like driving Need 4 Speed etc and they love Call of Duty etc (which I personally cannot stand)
  3. Is the (current) product price competitive? I would say they could reduce the price a little bit in comparison to Xbox but PS3 does have blu-ray
  4. Are the current promotional strategies effective? Don't Know
  5. Where is the product in it's life cycle? Does it need updating? I would say towards the end with the announcement of PS4 but with current economic climate not sure all will be able to afford PS4
  6. Are there any other things you would like to add? No
  7. On a scale of 1-10, rate the PS3. 9
  8. (Relates to the earlier life cycle question)How long do you think the PS3 will live AFTER the release of the PS4? I would say 2-3 years but that is due to people being able to afford the PS4, and depending on developers keeping servers open on PS3
  9. How often do you use the product? Almost daily
  10. When you start using it, how long do you use it for (in hours, or days if your that dedicated) I used to play 7-8 hours a day then moved house and got new job so less free time would say i get an hour a day on average now maybe more if girlfriend is out
  11. Since you bought it, how much more money, not including games, have you put into the product? (Some may be uncomfortable answering that question. That is fine) I would say about £500 with PS move, extra controllers, keyboards, mics etc

I do realize that the PS4 is going to be out soon, but there isn't a lot of information out on it yet. Some of these questions seem obviously basic but they are just the basic recommended questions. Feel free to add your own opinions.

Here are the few questions I have for you.

    1. Are you sastified with the product? yep
    2. What changes would you like to see in the product? More focus on online gaming, fixing the bottlenecks for PSN downloads
    3. Is the (current) product price competitive? right now yes
    4. Are the current promotional strategies effective? no, more needs to be done and for longer period of time when it comes to software.
    5. Where is the product in it's life cycle? Does it need updating? Near the end overall but still middle of the range in terms of age
    6. Are there any other things you would like to add? Faster downloads
    7. On a scale of 1-10, rate the PS3. 6
    8. (Relates to the earlier life cycle question)How long do you think the PS3 will live AFTER the release of the PS4? I would say 2 years after once the PS4 has enough titles no reason to go back
    9. How often do you use the product? twice a week
    10. When you start using it, how long do you use it for (in hours, or days if your that dedicated) No idea about 3 hours when I do
    11. Since you bought it, how much more money, not including games, have you put into the product? (Some may be uncomfortable answering that question. That is fine) 50 games total, most at retail pricing

I do realize that the PS4 is going to be out soon, but there isn't a lot of information out on it yet. Some of these questions seem obviously basic but they are just the basic recommended questions. Feel free to add your own opinions.

    Hope that helpful :y:

    1. Yes
    2. Make it so that we can update the flashplayer and such? Also the customer support is FAIL. You'd have more luck on forums.
    3. I guess so, but i'm a ps3 fan.
    4. Pummel me down and i still wouldn't have an answer. I do believe verbal promotion is the most effective.
    5. I feel like mine is dieing. But it has been used ALOT, and yes updates are needed :P
    6. It does what a game console should do. I rather have them enhance what's already there then have them add more options.
    7. 8
    8. You never know O.o I don't think it has long though this one[slim] has exceeded the first few. My 60gig lover died prematurely, guess they didn't want us to play too much ps2 games anymore.
    9. Daily Movies/series/games don't judge me:kiss:
    10. 1-15 hours don't judge me!
    11. Hmm excluding games, i'm guessing you mean add ons? Controllers: bought 7 Survived: 4 Out of which 2 have symptoms of illness. 1 Died by wall trauma. I've also bought that controller charger station thing :P And a headset. Not sure how much that all comes to, i'm guessing about 4/500 or something. THATS EXCLUDING GAMES AND CONSOLES.

In short. I'm satisfied with the product, and unsatisfied with the customer support. It always ends with them offering to sell you a new playstation for half or 3/4th the price NO THANKS! And i want to be able to update my flashplayer as i watch stream series/movies on my ps3.
