No I sure you can't so this. I'm not so sure to be honest though.

you do know that when you put the 360 game onto the HDD you have to have the disc in to play it.

im not sure if you understood the OP, he thinks downloading a game to his HDD will enable him to play the game after he's rented it so he doesn't have to buy it.

No you can not. On 360 if you install to the HD but you must have the disc to play. Installing to the HD just makes the game load quicker and smoother. PS3 discs have a chip in them that is required to play all games.

If you are referring to a flashed 360, yes you can. I do not think there is a way for PS3 considering it is a BluRay.

It is possible on the 360 but as others have said, it requires the disc to be inserted.
