You talkin to me?
Sony only charges you $150 if either your warranty has expired, or it has been void by removing the sticker. Even if you attempt to fix it yourself, Sony will still send you a refurbished PS3 for $150. You have nothing to lose... If, however, you have the original PS3 model, I would consider either fixing it yourself or sending it in, and buying the newer model.

Heres a other way
There is this company called gophermods you can look it up online
they will fix your ps3 with the ylod for 69.00 and you will get your own system back if the disk is in it you will get it back
you dont lose all your data because its your system
and if you need to send it back again after a while they will only charge you for shipping and the labor will be free
they even do reball service which i think is the best repair since the solder they used to make the machine cracks and that why shit happens(how ever reball service is like 139.00)
its up to you they do got a good service record and its cheaper than sony and you dont got to worry about any thing.

Stansy
Who is Stansy?
Just try to do it yourself.
Here's a tut: You must login or register to view this content.

My friend had the same problem and managed to fix it himself.
I'm pretty sure the YLOD happens when the heat sink pops off the GPU/CPU, all you have to do is re-connect it.
