Could a kind person explain how the technique Save Wizard cheats work please?

I choose them, I load my game as it suggests but everything is still locked in that section and I only have one skill point to use.

There was a software update for the game yesterday, taking it to version 1.05 - do you think that has made the cheats not work? SW aren't saying anything on their twitter feed if this is the case.
