(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Sony has tacked on another $200 million to its projected losses, this brings the total up to $1.2 billion.

GI.Biz is reporting for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2014, Sony expected a net loss of $1.27 billion. This was previously projected at a loss of $1.07 billion.

Sony actually predicted profits of $489 million at the end of the last fiscal year, but the sluggish slow sales of the electronics department seems to be a factor in huge losses.

Sony has stated that selling of their VAIO PC line was the reason for the change in projection. Sony’s PC sales were even lower than expected for the fiscal year that ended, which results in the added losses.

A Sony spokesperson issued a statement:

Consequently, Sony expects to record write-downs for excess components in inventory and accrual of expenses to compensate suppliers for unused components ordered for Sony’s Spring PC lineup.

In addition, certain restructuring charges are expected to be recorded ahead of schedule. As a result of these factors, an additional total amount of approximately ¥30 billion in expenses is anticipated to be recorded in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2014.”

Sony has done numerous cost saving measures that included selling property, stocks, and laying off around 5,000 employees.

Sony’s full report will be released on May 14th. You must login or register to view this content.

Didn't Sony have to sell one of their offices so they didn't go bankrupt? Looool. The problem with Sony is they never provide enough add ons. I bought their 3D camera. Great Camera. Just no software to do anything with it. Their 3D movie camera had no software to put it over to blu-ray. There is no HDMI blu-Ray recorders to store your movies on. They should follow up with their customers and see what they need and want and follow thru - not just move on. Bought their PS4. Where"s the games ??. Wheres the 3D Blu-Ray movie player as on my PS3. I can't even play Skyrim or Fallout or any other games on it. What a let down.

There are no games because sony never released their specs for the ps4 as to avoid leaking so no one could develop games until the ps4 was actually announced and you can't play your ps3 games cause it was to allow easy coding for developers on ps4 games since ps3 was harder to create games. Just give it time ps4 will have amazing games.

This will affect the PS4 lol, since this is owned by Sony. Even if PS4 is making profits, they have other devices that are slacking off. 5000 employees being layed off could mean PlayStation developers layed off too.

Sony issues are due to the following
No big product to make money
A couple loss makers PC, TV etc
No grand vision
Failure to turn into a service company with hardware like Apple

That said, Sony does have some big plus like a giant media company/strong gaming unit along with some great ideas. Just sometimes they don't come to market with a name to boot. Sony brand also has lost its shine too.
Slow into the market on some fronts too it a shame Sony is yet to tie up.

Some hope for Sony just needs to be bold and invest a ton into R&Awesome face.
That said, they are in a better position compared to Nintendo which has a dying cash cow and a massive loss maker with no other business.
