(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Push Square: "No convention is complete without some speculation regarding hardware prices. It’s hard to believe that this time last year, the PlayStation 4’s recommended retail price was very much still up in the air, with many expecting Sony to plump up for a more costly figure than its nearest competitor. As it happens, the Japanese giant actually undercut Microsoft, announcing that its next-gen system would sell for $100 less than the Xbox One. Seeing its system slip behind in global sales, the Redmond-based firm has since adjusted the asking fee for its format, announcing a $399.99 model that ships without the Kinect camera included. But does the PlayStation maker need to adjust to this announcement?" You must login or register to view this content. You must login or register to view this content.

No, it is not. Kaz had already stated its making profit off hardware sales alone.

Sony as a whole is at a loss in money, not PlayStation's side of the company

Last I heard, Sony was almost debating bankruptcy. I suppose most CEO's wh bail the company, especially after a massive launch like the PS4, means bad news. They're not bouncing back up and a few months ago, Sony was dropping their computers.

The Playstation branch of sony is one of their most successful, and brings in large amounts of profit, not loss.

Did i say they're making a loss..they are making a loss with the ps4 and recouping and profiting the losses with psn+ and games...The ps4 costs more to make than what it is sold for..

saying that they wont do a price drop is dumb , xbox one was barley breaking even before their two price drops and now its being sold for the same as a ps4 keeping in mind the kinect is taken out point being ps4 cant go any lower unless the have already shrunk the die size and redesigned a better mobo doubtful they would drop one this early considering the new ps4 model is only patching a wifi hardware vulnerability

No it doesn't! They are making profits from retail sales of ps4.

"PS4 is also already contributing profit on a hardware unit basis, establishing a very different business framework from that of previous platform businesses."

*contributing profit on a hardware unit basis - i.e.The sale of the actual console.
