if u get one from microsoft they work fine.
i sent of a form without a elite serial code on or purchase date and got one back, easily modded my gamerscore and avatar.

Ebay "Xbox 360 Transfer Cable" there will be loads of them, they are usually 3Rd Gen anyway but it works the same as an official one.
