Following the November NPD data, Sony has reacted to the sales report, noting that PS3 hardware sales were up 112% month-over-month, and that PS3 sales overall have been up 5% year-to-date (through November). Sony saw three PS3 titles in the top 10 software skus for the month, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, Assassin's Creed:Brotherhood, and Gran Turismo 5. Moreover, Sony has categorized its Move controller as having "blockbuster success" and they expect shortages to persist.

"This holiday season PlayStation celebrates, along with the video game industry, as NPD reports a 9% year over year industry increase in overall dollar sales. The early blockbuster success of PlayStation Move has undoubtedly helped to pave the way for us as we head into 2011. The library of hard core and social gamer titles currently on the store shelves (EyePet, Get Fit with Mel B, Gran Turismo 5, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, SingStar Dance) as well those to come (Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, LittleBigPlanet 2, Twisted Metal, Killzone 3) will only continue to solidify our place in the living room," said Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA.

He continued, "In fact, the strength of Move’s technology infrastructure in allowing our developers to make already released titles Move compatible, will help broaden the net of their existing PS3 titles, bringing them to life even further with PlayStation Move. We’re pleased that consumers continue to look to PlayStation for innovative and unique entertainment experiences. As we head into the new year, with almost every PlayStation Move sku in short supply and on allocation, I think we will continue to see a steady surge of positive growth for our home entertainment offerings simply because customers looking for strong product value, quality entertainment offerings, depth in gaming and content (original programming, NetFlix, Hulu Plus, NHL, MLB), will choose PlayStation."

with its PlayStation Move controller, it's not clear how many have actually been sold through to consumers.

The company has..Sony has released new sales figures for the Move motion controller, and sales look pretty strong for a device that was dubbed a gimmick by some analysts. Sony has recorded 4.1 million units sold-in (sold to retailers) since release in September in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Japan got hold of the device in October.

Sales were not broken down by territory. This news comes right after Microsoft announced that the Kinect has sold 2.5 million, achieving that feat in only 25 days.

Both Move and Kinect have seen strong demand and have been facing shortages, although there's been some speculation that the shortages have been artificially created to spur sales

Microsoft today provided another sales update on the Kinect peripheral. Boosted by "strong demand" during the Black Friday weekend, Kinect has now surpassed the 2.5 million sold mark in 25 days. Microsoft previously said that it sold 1 million in the first 10 days after launch.

“We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand,” said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday.”

“Kinect on Xbox 360 was a top performer at Target this weekend,” added Nik Nayar, vice president, merchandising, Target. “We expect Kinect will be a must-have gift this holiday season, so Target will continue to receive consistent shipments of Kinect throughout December. The hands-free, active gaming experience that Kinect offers is something that everyone in the family can enjoy.”

We're still waiting on Sony to provide us with some sort of PS3 and PlayStation Move Black Friday sales update. We'll let you know once we have some concrete data. [Update: Although not specific to Black Friday, Sony has just announced that it's sold 4.1 million Move units globally.]

and according to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, when looking at console bundles for Kinect and Move, Kinect is winning by far.

"About one fifth of PS3 sales included bundles with Sony’s Move controller, suggesting a modest third month. About half of Xbox 360 sales included bundles with Microsoft’s Kinect peripheral, suggesting a strong first month. Xbox 360 Kinect console bundles outsold PS3 Move console bundles by more than 5:1," he noted.

He reiterated that he expects Kinect and Move to have a combined installed base of around 8 million by the end of the year, and as much as 20-25 million by the end of 2011.

Doesn't surprise me. I work for a major retail company, and we have a shit ton of Wii's and PS3's (Move and non-Move bundles) just sitting in our cases.

However the 360's (with or without Kinect) we can NOT keep in stock. Everyone wants one.

Honestly I don't even push the Move or Wii anymore. They are just too inferior to the Kinect. Also doesn't help their sales that we have a live Kinect demo set up for people to play the Kinect in our store. It's ALWAYS got people playing it.

The Kinect truly is the hot must have video game item this year.

It holds great promise for the future of Gaming. Imagine the endless possibilities. Wouldn't you like to be engulfed in what you play. Well not far off you truly will be able to.

Whether that be infiltrating a Russian Base in Call of Duty Black Ops, actually fighting alongside the UNSC as a Spartan, or you could be revving your engine, changing gears, and pulling an e-break to perform all of those awesome racing stunts.

The Kinect has already changing things, but it will open up a whole new world of possibilities.

In my opinion i don't like either. Motion gaming just isnt for me. I would rather have a regular controller any day.
