Develop magazine recently reported that Electronic Arts was in possession of the next Xbox console, only to have the rumor completely obliterated by EA.
The UK gaming magazine described a mysterious new console being transported to an unknown EA studio, guarded by a PC case. The publication claimed that someone from EA was, in fact, walking around with the forerunner of the future console generation. NOT.
No such thing. Shortly after Develop broke the news, EA subsequently broke hearts by announcing that this story was a “complete fabrication.” Eurogamer later compounded upon this statement.
There was no mystery box, lying in wait within a secure basement under constant surveillance. So, while the magazine claims that the news came from a trusted and established source, representatives from Electronic Arts denied every claim regarding the console’s existence.
What we have here is a guessing game getting messed up by some misplaced attribution. Just throw out a year and a console name- your word is as good as any. I’m calling it now: Xboxthrinity, the first console ever to play Xbox, PS3, PS2, and Wii games, and be powered by human blood. Hitting shelves next Wednesday with a retail price of your children.
