(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Marc Whitten, corporate vice president of Xbox and chief product officer for Xbox One, says Microsoft has increased the clock speed on the console's GPU by about 6.6 per cent.

Speaking on the latest Major Nelson podcast, Whitten outlined a number of changes to the system as it "gets close to the final performance envelope".

"This is the thing I think people are going to see as we get into Gamescom and people get their first look at new things since E3," he said. "This is the time where developers have the final dev kits in their hands, they're really working closely with us on how things have come together. There's some things that have really started to come together quite well."

A mixture of optimisation software and initial conservative estimates has meant the GPU can reach 853mhz - effectively allowing developers to put more demand on the system.

"Since E3, an example is we've dropped in what we internally call our mono driver. It's our graphics driver that really is 100 per cent optimised for the Xbox One hardware," Whitten said.

"You start with the base Direct-X driver, and then you take out all parts that don't look like Xbox One and you add in everything that really, really optimises that experience. Almost all of our content partners have picked it up now and I think it's made a really nice improvement."

He continued: "That's the time where you start tweaking the knobs. Either your theory was right dead on, or you were a little too conservative, or you were a little too aggressive. It's actually been really good news for us, an example of that is we've tweaked up the clock speed on our GPU from 800mhz to 853mhz."

Xbox One will be available in 21 markets this November. The Xbox One price has been set at £425 / €499 /$499

Yes, I know this is supposed to be in the Xbox One section, but that section is dead and no one goes on it :p

Well, to date the Ps3 has better hardware than the Xbox 360 and we all know how that went for them(Sony's Ps3). Microsoft know software allot better than Sony do and that's why I believe Xbox will end up as the winner this generation as well. Hardware is one thing, when it's produced there's no going back while software is constantly updated and improved. People seem to forget about this when it comes to the Ps4 vs the Xbox one.

And who gives a fuck in the end of the day anyway? Developers will be making games for both systems anyway, meaning the lowest capable system will set the bar. Smile

yes the ps3 has better tech than the 360 but more multi platform games always looks good on the 36 hopefully it will be the other way around on the new gen

Microsoft is really trying hard. But, this is not a big deal to be honest. Not to mention the consoles are more than likely being produced by now. There is nothing they can do. The bandwagon effect has hit and majority of gamers are getting the PS4.
