Epic games have handed over the rights to gears of war to Microsoft in a not so shocking acquisition of the entire Gears of War franchise from previous owner Epic Games.
No information on how much it cost.
Unknown if the company plans to release of the old games on the xbox one. It likely to see a title for gears of war appear on the xbox one at some point no date so far.
Microsoft Studios published the series so far, not shocking to see that IP being taken over. Epic games have been moving away from its old IPs for some time.
Black Tusk Studios is going to be making the new title, one of a limited number of studios under Mircosoft.
Going to be some time before we see a game from Black Tusk due to only being a year old.
Phil Spencer has been talking about Sony successful studios talking about how they lack "naughty dog studio" along with being a gem in Sony's crown. Phil was happy to say that Sony studio is a gem within the gaming industry.
Xbox one has had a successful launch line up compared to the PS4 but weaker first party studios may be its weakness.
Unknown if Mircosoft have any major plans to improve its studio numbers or increase it IPs.
Given how Phil has replied after talking about Naughty dog it unlikely, so we could see more IP buy outs or deals.
From what I have played it a great 3rd person shooter some people say it's one of the best 3rd person titles. Gears of war had been a system seller for xbox in the past with Halo also been a major seller of consoles.
Gears of war is coming and staying on the xbox, Epic games have something epic coming so it's looking good for both companies.
As a PS4 owner, I found this news really rather disappointing, especially since there were rumours not long ago that the series was going multiplat. I bought a 360 a couple of years ago basically just to play this franchise (first three titles that is - don't think I missed much with Judgment going by reviews).
Anyway, very cool franchise. Good move by Microsoft - hopefully Black Tusk doesn't fuck it up. Hope to see a film adaptation one day (same goes for BioShock).
