Heyy, i think it will depend on what model your getting. So lets just say you getting the iPod Touch 3g and you have got the latest update. The only way really to jailbreak it is redsn0w & i believe not many things work with 4.0 however you can unlock multi-tasking and springboard wallpapers so i suggest doing it. Next once/if you jailbreak it you really only need to get free apps with install0us as with iOS4, you cant get themes YET, there is capability for folders with the standard firmware (you wont lose it jailbreaking btw), and when you jailbreak with redsn0w you unlock multi-tasking and the wallpaper. So to get install0us once you have jailbroken your iPod, go to cydia then there will be updates etc so after its finished doing what it needs go to manage tab at the bottom, tap source, then at the top it says edit - tap that, then you should see a add button - tap that. after you have done all of this a box should appear with 'https://' in so type in 'https://sinfuliphonerepo.com' (with apostrophe ' ', the it will say its illegal but add anyway. once its added all the sources and you have pressed return to cydia, you should see a new source that says sinfuliphone on click it and go to 'i'. Once at 'i' just scroll through the packages until you find install0us, then you need to install it so tap it then it should go to a page with details about the source, just click install. Now it should install correctly and if it hasn't Pm me. After you installed install0us you need to go back to the sinfuliphonerepo and go to 't', there you should see something called 'The Crack Store' install it as you installed 'install0us'. Once you installed both off these things exit out of cydia and you should see a new icon named install0u, click that and it will show a homepage off different sites that you can download cracked (illegal) apps from... theres a video Tut, but it just misses installing 'The Crack Store'

Now finally your friend. He has probably just installed a from version off a package. what he needs to do is go to cydia and download something called sBsettings (if he already hasn't got it. Once he has installed it then he needs to open it (rub his finger on the bar were its got the wifi bars, time and battery, and a menu should pop down. He then needs to click power (Last button at the bottom of the menu) and then safe mode (above cancel at the bottom) his iPod will then boot into safe mode, e should be able to use all his apps in this mode, however all's he needs to do is go to cydia and uninstall the latest packages he installed (NOT SBSETTINGS) and once he has done that just respring his iPod and it should work.

4.0 comes with homescreen wallpapers and multi-tasking for iTouch 3g. They didnt come out for iPhone 3g, iTouch 2g and previous models.
