A developer named James Whelton has recently managed to hack the iPod Nano (6th Generation) to allow black spaces in the SpringBoard.

The new iPod Nano has not yet been jailbroken, and still hasn't. But this new hack is defiantly a step closer to a future jailbreak.

The springboard hack is just the removal of a app and creation of a blank space. Not that amazing, but whats important is the bypass of Nano’s cache comparison, which compares any modded SB file and reverts it if it doesn’t like it, this opens up the possibility of hacking and modding, while not adding bootloaders or any of that fun stuff.
This could lead to enabling some new hacked features on the iPod Nano:

With the bypass I figured out, I hope to enable these pretty soon. It seems like the OS is a rehashed version of the previous Nano’s OS.
Remember that the device hasn't been jailbroken yet; there is still no root access on the iPod. This just shows that a jailbreak is possible, and we may be able to expect one sometime soon.
