Sad to say, There is yet to be an untethered Jailbreak for iPhone that have iOS 4.2. I've heard that there is one that will be coming out soon. But there is no exact date.

it depends on your firmware. for iphone 4 if youre on 4.1 its untethered. for 4.2.1 its tethered.
