Jailbroken ipods only die faster when you run multiple apps at once, which isnt a good idea anyway :P There are tweaks you can download which allow you to see what your battery % is by the battery in the upper right hand corner of your jailbroken ipod also. if your thinking about jailbreaking but have concerns, i recommend doing it haha

Yea, it is a shame :( but you cant give them 3 touchdowns for free and not expect to lose...it was hopeful near the end, but they couldnt pull it off.

There are many factors. Not just running multiple apps but the different types of cydia packages you have installed.

If you have SSH enabled or FTP, you may want to turn it off as they are by default constantly looking.

There are many different packages for different purposes. What I recommend you do not install is the cydia package for multi-tasking. If your ipod does not support multi-tasking, do not use the homebrew developed ones as they cause random crashes, delays and bugs in the functionality of your ipod. Stick with the official multi-tasking on 4.0 if possible, otherwise avoid the cydia version at all costs!

Though, jailbreaking offers many quick and easy access to disabling connections such as Bluetooth, Wifi, Phone, SSH, 3G and many more with Boss Prefs!

As long as you use the Jailbreaks wisely, it shouldnt kill the battery that quickly.

If you mean it's life over time, I think the only thing that will affect it's life time drastically is overclocking the iPod.

A great tip:

Do not charge and use the ipod at the same time. You make the battery charge die more quickly as well as its overall lifespan.

If ur idevice can't hold a charge for very long.... A restore nd a fresh jailbreak couldn't hurt.. Especially cause we can jailbreak all firmwares as of now.. =D
