use redsnow, u need to have the orginal apple fw 4.2.1 and redsnow and than u will have 4.2.1 redsnow jb on it and u can change ur bootlogo.

We are talking about changing our bootlogos on 4.1 firmware WITHOUT having to update.

Once hes on 4.2.1 he never need to chane his Fw or update or downgrade ..

Right but now I'm stuck on 4.1 because it won't let me SHSH to 4.2.1 I could only update through iTunes to 4.3.1 which I really don't want to do.

ur wrong. use Redsnow, turst me. cuz for redsnow u need the Fw on ur computer, which u can dwl from Apple.if needed ican upload for u. and than u jb ur iDevice with Redsnnow and 4.2.1.... thats what i did.. u no need to update to 4.3

I have also tried redsnow, got the firmware from jailbreakmatrix and when it starts to do whatever it's supposed to it then gives me an error that the .ipsw or whatever is invalid. Lol TRUST me i've tried everything.

Thanks, and i also have another kick from recovery i believe it's called iReb. I could be wrong about the name it's on my portable hard drive.

Prob. A fake fw. And ur on windows 7? Gotta run redsnow in admin and comp. With winxp sp2 else it frezze. And yea but it in recovery mode, so u have to restore it, and before u restore try jb it via redsn0w.

On windows: Click "Check for updates" while holding the shift key, then select your .IPSW

On a Mac: Click "Check for updates" while holding the option key, then select your .IPSW

As for changing the bot logo the easiest was would be to ssh.
