An shsh blob is a saved file on cydia's server.. That is directly signed to ur idevice... They let u do a restore from Saurik's servers(cydia creator) instead of apples servers...
As for how to know which 1s u have saved open up cydia.. Let it load completely.. Then on the top of the screen(below the stays bar) it will say shsh.. Then it will tell u wht blobs u have saved
Example(this is what mine says)
SHSH: iOS 4.1, 4.2b3, 4.2.1, 4.3b1, 4.3b2, 4.3b3, 4.3
Those r the firmwares I can restore to... Ur shsh blobs will prolly b different.. Ur welcome. :p

actually i believe that if your on 4.2.1 right now and dont have you shsh blob saved you can go do it right now and just restore it. first download tinyumbrella from here You must login or register to view this content. then locate your device in there and click save SHSH and it should save your 4.2.1 shsh then just download the firmware from here You must login or register to view this content. if you dont have it and just SHIFT+RESTORE it from itunes.

Actually all i had to do was download the 4.2.1 firmware when hitting shift and restore at the same time choose that file and then restore im restoring right now.
