I defeated!
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This problem came across when my friend turned off my tethered iPod Touch 3G for April Fools. He didn't know that my sleep button is broken, and that my Norton Antivirus deleted the jailbreak program that I use to boot my iPod. I had no other choice but to update it to 4.1. I had looked for many tutorials how to jailbreak it without the sleep button but had no other choice. My iPod was stuck in 4.1 with no jailbreak, all of my Installous downloaded apps deleted and my iPod was plain boring. I tried to jailbreak it with many programs but most of them required DFU mode which requires my sleep and home button being pressed at the same time.

Here's what I did.

First I downloaded the official 4.0 firmware from You must login or register to view this content.

Second I downloaded limerain from You must login or register to view this content..

I downgraded my iPod. Thats right. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and open the hosts file by right clicking, open and choose notepad. Add this line
    #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
at the end and it should look like this:
You must login or register to view this content.

Save the file and plug in your iPod.

Send your iPod into recovery mode. Usually, you will need to press the sleep and home button but lets use limerain because our sleep/home button is broken.

Open up limerain and make it rain.

Unplug your iPod when it shows the connect to iTunes logo.

Close limerain and plug your iPod back in again. iTunes should pop-up saying your iPod is in recovery mode. Click your iPod at the left hand side and hold SHIFT then click Restore. Choose the 4.0 ipsw you downloaded earlier. Make sure its the right one for your iDevice.

You will see that it will restore it to the firmware that you chose. Wait for it to complete and it will ask you if you want to set it up as a new iPod or restore it from a recent backup. You cannot restore it from a recent backup because it will say that your iPod is too old.

Set it up as a new iPod and don't sync everything yet.

Go to your iPod and set up your network settings. Go to Settings>General>About and make sure that your iPod is 4.0. Go to Safari and go to the following website : You must login or register to view this content..

This will give you an untethered jailbreak. Slide the button and it will start downloading.

After you've jailbroken your device, you can install Appsync from Cydia if you haven't already. Then sync everything from your iTunes so it will sync all of your previously downloaded apps from Installous. Download Activator so you can assign things such as double tap status bar to sleep etc etc.

I don't think so... I don't know why you would want something lower anyways 4.2.1 is the best you get custom boot logos..

hey there, i’m having the same problem as well. however, when i try to put it back into recovery mode using limerain, my computer isn’t detecting the phone at all. it’s just stuck on the apple logo at the moment and wont react to limerain. even itunes isn’t detecting my phone. :(
