(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); For those of you who don't want to buy an Apple iOS Dev account, or pay anyone else to register your UDID, here's a full length tutorial on how to hacktivate your iPhone or iPod (iPod on beta 1 only!).

OK, so first off, go ahead and download iOS 5 b1 or b2 for your device. There's links at the bottom.
Next, get iTunes 10.5 b1 or b2 (get b1 if you downloaded iOS 5 b1 and b2 if you downloaded iOS 5 b2!) and install it.

So when you've done that, use redsn0w (linked below) to jailbreak.

Now here's the tricky part - you have to hacktivate to get to the home screen. It can be done in two ways, depending on your iOS and device.

For b1, triple tap home to activate voice over, tap the clock on the stauts bar, then pull down from the status bar with three fingers to activate notifications centre, then tap the weather widget to go to the weather app, then simply press home to quit to the home screen. This works on all devices running iOS 5 b1 (iOS 5 b2 patches it)

For iOS 5 b2, use my method. Tap home to bring up a menu, and choose emergency call. Dial an emergency number, tap call, now quickly quit, tap "touch to return to call" and cancel the call (if you do this quick enough, it won't dial out). Then press home and you're on the home screen (works on iOS 5 b2 - iPhone only! - iPod method coming soon)

Now, go onto Cydia and add the Sinful iPhone Repo:

From this repo, install iFile cracked.

You want to go to the root first, then into /system/library/coreservices/systemversion.plist

Now simply delete the following string:

    {key}ReleaseType{/key}

{string}Beta{/string}

Save it, exit and reboot. You don't have to boot tethered.

Now proceed through the activation method, it will work. You're now hacktivated.
