Apple has just released iOS 4.3.4 for iPhone (GSM only), iPad and iPod Touch users as well as iOS 4.2.9 for Verizon (CDMA) iPhone users! The only purpose for this release is to patch the PDF exploit that JailbreakMe 3.0 took advantage of, so unless you don’t plan on Jailbreaking, DO NOT UPDATE!
Apple has even confirmed in a support document that this update does indeed patch the exploit
Impact: Viewing a maliciously crafted PDF file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution

The exploit jailbreakme uses can easely be used to destroy iDevices, for example you visit a webpage and it wipes all your data on the iDevice away

Because apple loose money on it and it's in their interest to keep there system locked down, thats why they patch it
