Before I start I would like to point out that iOS 5 is still in beta. Beta 1 and Beta 2 have been released, and both can be hacked the same way. Instructions and download are bellow. I do not, in any way take any fault if you screw up following this tutorial. This tutorial is for demonstration purposes only. Neither do I and / or NextGenUpdate host the downloads; they are hosted in a server not owned by neither.

1- Download your model version from here: You must login or register to view this content. (Sorry for link, download won't start in the thread due to their security.)

2- Download the Dev iTunes: You must login or register to view this content. (Same as above.)

3- Backup your device using iTunes.

4- Download RedSn0w:

1- Open your updated iTunes and plug in your iDevice.
2- Once it shows the iDevice options, go to where it says 'Restore' and shift+click it.
3- A select file dialog should show up. Pick iOS 5 from the folder you downloaded it to.
4- Wait until it restores and updated your iDevice.
5- Now once your device starts go trough the easy set-up they have you do, and in the very end where it will check for your IDID it should give you an error.
6- Open up RedSn0w and go trough the whole jailbreak process with iOS 5. (This is standard Jailbreak skills. If you do not know how to quote me.)
7- After you are done jailbreaking go back to your iDevice.

Follow the instructions bellow now for your iDevice option.

8- Click the home button once and go to Emergency call.
9- Call 112, and press the home button.
10- Press the 'Back to call' button, and end the call.
11- Open Cydia from the spring board.
12- Let Cydia load and update it self.
13- Go to the search bar, and search iFile.
14- Download iFile, and quit Cydia proceeding to open iFile.
15- In iFile click the top left button to go to the root of your iPhone.
16- Navigate to:

System > Library > Core Services > SystemVersion.plist

17- Open it and remove the ReleaseType key. (This should be removing ReleaseType and the following 2 lines bellow it.)
18- Restart your device, and go trough the setup once again. Setup should go trough just fine.

8- Download iPhoneExplorer from You must login or register to view this content..
9- Run iPhoneExplorer and plug in your iPod.
10- In iPhoneExplorer go to:

Raw File Systems > System > Library > Core Services > SystemVersion.plist

11- Drag that file out of the folder and open it with notepad.
12- Remove the ReleaseType key. (This should be removing ReleaseType and the following 2 lines bellow it.)
13- Restart your device, and go trough the setup once again. Setup should go trough just fine.

Because then he can have an update ready when iOS 5 is released. Common sense, I see you do not have it.

The only ones being rubbish here are the kids such as your self. I though this was a hacking board, not a 'who can get the most attention in a thread' board. The iOS 5 beta version was meant not only for bug finding, but also for app developing; Jailbreak developers will find this useful as they will be able to test their app on iOS 5 with out paying $99 a year.

And just to let you know, there are much more 'L33T's' in this forum than your sorry ass.

Actually the beta's for the iPhone and iPod are pretty stable as of right now. The iPad in the other hand is full of bugs.

So he needs to bypass the activation to make sure themes he uses work? That makes TOTAL sense. He'll just screw somthing up and have a useless phone untill iOS 5 officialy comes out .Also, Most jailbreak developers already have an apple developing liscense...

This is a forum filled with people who want to be hackers but never actually does anything else then use something that others already have created, take challengelobbies as a example. Not saying your one of them, you're probebly lile me, someone who is here to help, learn and write theads and tuts

Says the guy with -48 rep. And one of the main reason people develops for Cydia is because they rather not pay $99 a year for a license. Also, just to point out, this is an very easy tutorial to follow; it should take you less than 15 minutes to have every thing set-up and ready to go.

I can't disagree with the part that people here think they are hackers. But they only reason I come to this forum is to post useful tutorials and tools I made my self; I gave up on this forum long time ago.

Making tuts Urself? I bet u didn't found out that tut with the home button by urself..

And yea, I bet also there's alot kids on this board, just watch the shout box.. Some peoples sitting there for days.. And they aren't older than 16. And to this tut, ios5 is still buggy either on the iPhone/iPod or the iPad. So why using this? And a lot gonna scream, aaahhh my apps.. Duh. I had it on my iPad and remove, cuz none of my Cydia tweaks I use didn't work, so for real. Wait for it to be released. It isnt that much longer...

Are you ****ing kidding me... Why do you have to know if it works now? WAIT untill it gets updated when iOS 5.0 is released. Alost everything in 5b3 is broken. Also, using beta jailbreaks if you are a user is very stupid.

what things can you do with the betas???
