And don't wear it out.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This is not a finished application. Nowhere close.
Hope I made that clear.

**********

If you've been here for awhile, you'll know that there have always been talks about getting an official NextGenUpdate iPhone App. Which, of course, have resurfaced, due to the creation of the mobile version of the site (Enzo :loveSmile.

I'm a young guy (just turned 16), so when I was more active on the site awhile back, I could barely write a "Hello World" program in BASIC.

Nowadays, I'm fluent in about 8 different programming languages. So when people started talking of making an app again, I figured I could actually give it a shot now.

**********

Basically, there are two parts to this type of app.

One part is online, which sorts through data from the website and figures out exactly what to send to your phone.
I got this part down. Literally. It's pretty much all already been programmed. (If you're a web-tech kinda guy, there's some details about what exactly that is further down).

The other part is on the phone itself, which takes that data and does cool !@#$ with it.
This I'm a lot less good at. However, after one day of self-teaching, I've gotten pretty damn far. I should be an expert on this within the month, so no worries there.

So here's a video of what's programmed on the iPhone app so far. All it contains is a table that is your NGU inbox, and clicking on one of the titles brings you the full message.

So what's the point of all this?
Well, there's an app. It can log you in successfully and get specified data from the website.

And that's quite a bit farther than anybody else has gotten here Winky Winky

(But seriously, the functionality's there; that's the hard part. The rest is just slowly adding in more features and making it look good. Shouldn't take long at all).

If anybody wants more details (technical stuff, what to expect, beta testing, etc.), continue on here:
What to Expect
By the time this is finished, it should (hopefully) have close to all of the functionality of the full site- meaning you would never need to go on the actual site for more functionality. Of course, that would be ideal- however, NGU has so many features, that this is a pretty high expectation. All the basics will defiantly be there though- such as Messaging, Shoutbox, Threads/Posts, Settings, etc.)

NGU's Official Status Here
... There is none. I have not spoke with anybody of general authority about this (and I don't expect to anytime soon, if at all- there have been so many people discussing this that I take it I shall be ignored until there's some actual momentum here. No worries).

Beta Testing
As mentioned above, NGU is not officially with me on this. As a result, all server-based code is stored on my own server. Of course, that means that at this point in time, I could easily set it up to log usernames and passwords. Of course it's not set up to. But until the server-side code is released and/or examined, I don't want to be responsible for any possible security issues.

Problems
It's worth mentioning that I have a few major problems here. For one, I have little experience with Xcode. As previously mentioned, I'm taking care of this, and should be good to go really soon.
My other problem is the lack of necessary resources to make this app. I have no apple computer (which is needed for making iPhone apps), instead using a Hackintosh (PC that thinks it's a mac, lol), which works very poorly. At the moment, I'm also developing on a jailbroken iPhone because I'm not enrolled in the Apple Developer Program, which costs a decent bit of money. In the mean time I should be able to work through both of these, but it does make me a considerable amount slower, just a warning.

Technical Details
There are a lot. If you have any specific questions, ask 'em and I'll write about it here.

Otherwise, the basic point is that the skeleton of the program works, and that if I steadily add in more functionality (reading/posting, changing settings, shoutbox, etc.), this will be done relatively soon.

Anyways, I'm tired, so I'm sure a good half of this makes next-to-know-sense. If there are any questions or clarifications to be made, just ask.
