(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Jailbreak is REQUIRED.

When you are in your iPhone's dialer and you tap a number, it does the dial tone. The ONLY way to cut this off is if you put your phone in silent mode which means there will be NO sounds at all. I finally got lucky by doing the following:

1. Download something to browse the iPhone's file system such as iExplorer or iFunbox
2. Plug your phone in and go to the raw file system to find the memory
3. Navigate to System/Library/Audio/UISounds
4. Find all the files that look like "dtmf-#.caf" The # representing the corresponding tone for that number. There will be 0-9 and a dtmf-star.caf and dtmf-pound.caf
5. Copy these files in a safe place to back them up in case you want to undo this
6. Make an empty text document and name it dtmf-0 with the extension .caf. Do this for every dtmf file you backed up (dtmf-0.caf, dtmf-1.caf, etc etc)
7. Once you have all 12 files (which includes -star and -pound), copy them back where the original files were in step 2
8. Reboot
9. Go to your dialer and test out your silent dial tones

No, you can't go to the / (root) without a untethered jailbreak.
