This is huge: Apple just announced that some major executive changes will be taking place in 2013, one of which involves Senior Vice President of iOS Software Scott Forstall leaving the company. Forstall, as most of you know, has been largely responsible for the success of iOS and its devices. In his absence, Jony Ive, Bob Mansfield and other executives will take on more responsibilities.

Additionally, Apple’s newly-appointed head of retail John Browett will also be leaving the company. A new search for his position is already underway, and in the mean time, all Apple retail will be reporting directly to Tim Cook.

Updates..

“Apple Inc. executive Scott Forstall was asked to leave the company after he refused to sign his name to a letter apologizing for shortcomings in Apple’s new mapping service, according to people familiar with the matter.”

This incident was said to be the final straw in a series of clashes between Forstall and other executives at Apple. It’s fairly well known that the SVP didn’t get along with Jony Ive, Bob Mansfield and other department leaders at the company.

“Mr. Forstall, a 15-year Apple veteran, was a protégé of Mr. Jobs, and his name was once bandied about as a possible successor. He rose quickly at the company and earned a reputation for risk taking. But he was also known as difficult to work with, and “never fit into the culture of Apple,” said one person familiar with the matter.”

The tense situation is said to have reached a boiling point during the past month, as iOS users complained about the new Maps app in iOS 6. There’s been hundreds of reports of data inaccuracies, missing locations and points of interest, and other bugs.

“In deciding how to manage the crisis, Mr. Forstall argued that the company could address the outcry without apologizing, as Apple had done when it shipped iPhones with faulty antennas a few years ago, one of these people said. Mr. Cook and others disagreed, these people said. Mr. Cook signed his name to the apology instead.”

The last thing Apple needs is someone like him who doesn't want to admit that iOS 6 sucks and that it's in dire need of change. I am actually very happy to see Apple moving on for once. Perhaps iOS may come with a complete new overhaul with iOS 7. I am really hoping that Apple looks into this, since it's getting ridiculous. "If it aint broke don't fix it" doesn't work forever. Apple has been lacking greatly in the field of iOS. And it shows in the sheer number of people owning Androids vs. iPhones. Apple's market share has fallen drastically in the mobile phone market I would say mainly because of iOS and it's shortcomings.

I'm excited to see some new ideas at Apple. Let's hope for the best.

It was already said that it will be migrated to the same guy who make this job on OS X. I think this is an awesome move for Apple because we will see a lot of integration from now on and that will hopefully be the grand thing of iOS7. :blank:

Are you high?
Hopefully now iOS can be taken to its fullest potentials! I would love to see some new minds in the development and to see more customization in iOS 7.
