Recently I was iMessaging someone with my iPad 2 and mid sending a message to her, the app crashed. I just killed it from the task manager, and opened it again. Crash.
Went into safe mode and opened it. Crash.
Ran iCleaner Pro. Crash.
Nothing was fixing messages. I went to my settings to try to deactivate my iMessage account and reactivate it to see if it would fix it. When I tapped the iMessage section in settings, I was greeted with a blank page. Literally. Nothing was there.
If I restored, I would be put back on 6.1.3 and I like my jailbreak, so I did a little looking. Found out a few fixes. None of them worked for me, but I played with them some and got my app working again.
Without Jailbreak fix:
This MAY or MAY NOT work.
1. Reboot your phone/tablet
2. Have someone iMessage you.
IT CANNOT BE THE PERSON YOU WERE JUST RECENTLY MESSAGING. IT MUST BE SOMEONE THAT WAS NOT IN YOUR TEXTING/IMESSAGE HISTORY.
3. Go into contacts of anyone with an iMessage account
4. Select "Send Message" and it MAY fix your iMessage.
If that doesn't work, try rebooting your phone again afterward and trying one more time.
(You may have to delete a conversation. If you can open the app but can't get to a certain one, you will have to delete that one. Something in the messages has becoming corrupted and cannot be viewed. This is why you need someone else to message you.)
After that, you are out of luck and must restore, but you can make a backup first so don't think the backup would make your messages app crash once you have restored.
With Jailbreak (definite fix).
If the above doesn't work for you, try:
With this, all attachments between you and all people you have messaged will be deleted. This is incoming and outgoing attachments.
1. Reboot your phone/tablet
2. Open iFile/SSH/whatever
3. Navigate to var/Mobile/Library/SMS/
4. Delete the "Attachments" folder
5. Reboot
If that doesn't fix it, go back to the SMS folder and delete everything inside BUT
*****KEEP IN MIND YOU WILL BE LOSING ALL TEXT MESSAGES THIS WAY.*****
USE AN APP TO BACK THEM UP!!!
Afterward, reboot your phone/tablet and it should let you open messages again with a clean slate.
I am not responsible for anything you do in iFile that results in your phone messing up. If you can follow simple directions, then you should be fine.
