Reviewed some of the gameplay on the web, newest theories, and yada yada yada...
Anyway I heard all of the quotes from Samuel, Misty, and Marlton (haven't heard Russ).
I think I have pieced together why there are two sides and conflicting characters, Information from the magazine about "How to survive Tranzit".
The game itself tries to drive the idea that there are two sides... (almost everyone has figured this out)

Maxis(?)...
Misty & Marlton

Call me crazy but there are alot more links to these pairs or "Groups" (I emphasize group b/c the article states stay with your group). Such as the audio to pair the liking of Sam to Russ and Misty to Marlton, and dislike of the opposing pair.

The Ability to Hear Richtofen is held by the ears of Samuel... (I am unclear at this point if richtofen says you must convince your deaf friend(s). See Russ is old he can't hear so well so he YELLS.)

I myself have not heard a quote about maxis having identified a person as "Oh its you"... this in my mind says that its just like richtofen identifing Samuel as the one to hear him... (I know that "Oh its you" is not the complete quote, it is all I can remember at the moment.) So that being said my mind tells me (off of hearing the quotes) that the individual in this pair able to communicate effectively (I say effectively b/c Misty says a quote about someone calling out her name but she can't hear it) that Marlton is key to Maxis' side.

So do you have to complete your side with the correct characters to proceed???

Another interesting thing from the article about "How to survive Tranzit" is that there is a secret laboratory in the corn field... Where? Is it the obelisk table? (Hardly a Lab...) Or is it nacht der untoten? (Empty Lab???) Either way that is wierd right? Well the game makers may have made a mistake but I doubt that in a serious way... All this talk from the characters about the corn and how its soooooo amazing... (Why?) Is it because its all fake!?! Think about it, how long would that corn last by itself, unattended... Not Years! Not Decades! Especially with zombies running around, a nuke, and it would not look that pristine...
Its fake in my opinion and misty says something about there being no more corn to run around in.

The last part of this thread is simply why "Theories" are good. To see from anothers person perspective, to learn, to enjoy the game as much as the creators intended...
That being said I have one person in mind that I have seen multiple times posting on other theories about how the people posting them are dumb, stupid, and just plain crazy... So what, people are different than you, get over it and stop wasting space with your useless comments about how this is dumb and that is stupid... you are for having nothing usefull to add to this site with your offensive nature, so please go away or save yourself the effort of looking dumb yourself yet again.
