You do need a wired connection.
Wireless will not work.

Step 1: Get into an xp lobby
Step 2: Kill yourself 3 times
Step 3: Go over to your ps3 and remove the ethernet cable, wait until your back at the multiplayer screen
Step 4: Plug in your ethernet cord, wait until your signed in automatically
Step 5: Wait until "store" appears visible.
Step 6: Press "Go Online"
Step 7: Voila! Your now level 50.
