You can still add characters that are normally blocked, they just stop you from changing the color or adding buttons to it.

ive seen people with the fractions still in their clan tag in october there hasnt been a CoD 4 update in what like 4 months

use a usb keyboard but change the language (i put mine on french) and type in random characters and it will give you custom characters.

If you want all the symbols you can make on word for your clan tag then right click on your desktop and do:
New
Short cut
(And type in) charmap

This gives every symbol so you can have the most pimped clan tag =P
