Post: COD4 CFG Files up for download! (And possible new hack)
08-03-2009, 01:10 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey guys! I'm new to the NGU Forums. I registered a couple days ago to see if any hacks existed for the PS3. Ironically, my inspiration for trying to find some hacks came from helping my friend hack his Xbox 360, and not from all the people on PSN flying around with their shiny, new UFO hack. In fact, for some strange reason, I hadn't seen one hacker until the day after I registered on this site...

But anyways, all of that is beside the point. So I've been looking around these forums only to realize that the good old days of god mode and noclip are gone because of the 1.3 patch. Apparently, IW made it so that it was impossible to set any variables or binds in the save game data.

However, there was a major breakthrough when the UFO hack was found recently. The strange thing about the UFO hack is that it uses a configuration (or .cfg) file found in the games core files, and not binds.

I thought this was strange, so I decided to do some expirementing and try to find other possible hacks this way. I needed to look through the .cfg files somehow, and luckily my friend had brought COD4 for the PC. He let me borrow the game, and I installed it on my PC. I then used You must login or register to view this content. tool to extract all of the .cfg files from the games core files. I have uploaded these files for anyone to download on Rapidshare. The link is here:

I know there have been some other hacks found through this method, such as old school settings, change teams, and TDM settings in Cage Match. I don't know if these files will help or not, I just thought I would post them anyways for people to experiment, and hopefully, come up with more ways to hack.

I would also like to mention that I might have found something interesting that could lead to a hack. I opened up devgui_main.cfg and found a lot of goodies in there like noclip and god mode toggles. I edited it into my GPAD0_CM.PRF file like so:

    set gpad_buttonsConfig "devgui_main"

I dumped the save file onto my PS3 and got inside a game. When I tried to access the GUI through the settings menu (same method as UFO hack), I froze for a second, got thrown out of the game, and was given a notice saying "Lost Reliable Commands". Perhaps the GUI to has been removed in the PS3 version?

NOTE: I've noticed that a couple .cfg files are missing from the extraction I made (such as developer_mp.cfg). I don't know why this is, but maybe it has something to do with the extractor not being able to get all of the .cfg files. If any of you know a better method or program to extract the .cfg files from COD4, I would be happy to comply and update the file on RapidShare with more config files.

EDIT: Sorry, I accidentally deleted the file on my Rapidshare account. The files has been moved here:

very nice thread, your idea's are practicly the same as mine, (extract the .cfg's, then test them in Cod4)
i did get through quite alot of them, but most did'nt work. (ones that did were ones already found)

yea cfgs are pretty old and almost all have been tested now so unless a miracle happens where IW accidentally delete the 1.3 patch instead of installing the new one then hacking is pretty much dead.

I'll keep that in mind next time I cry myself to sleep. But seriously, thanks for giving me an update.
