You could do these hacks on xbox so why would it push people away,

Yeah but ps3 mods (its not hacking) are so easy to do--copy, paste usb--with xbox you have to have the connectivity kit for the hdd or what ever--and also its easy to get banned on xbox live--also you cant just make a new name like on ps3; u gotta pay for it.
