I know this thread is a bit old, but yes, CoD 4 is still worth getting. If you're looking to buy it on Playstation, I haven't been in a publicly hacked lobby in a long while. As for Xbox, I wish I could tell you, but I don't own one.

Hahaha, well it seems as if it wasn't answered, so I thought I'd pop in.
Anyways, glad you got it. I've been playing it today & it seems as if it's the only CoD that I don't nerd rage over, no matter how bad the game!
