I thought to myself. Maybe this could work. It seemed like the only bypassing method I hadn't tried yet. And what do you know. It worked like a charm. This works for Wired and Wireless connections! Very easy. But you have to wait till the people you added ACCEPT your friends request before you can count them towards your 60+ friends.

For people who are having trouble, all you need is to have 45 or more friends, it DOES NOT matter if they are online.Go over to the settings, make the date 1/1/08 ( i put 7am 
) Load up Cod4, when it asks you to update press circle.Next, skip through the intro and head into multiplayer. Once you reach the menu where it says play online, press the middle button on your controller. Sign in, you will get the update message again, keep canceling it.If you get a error message saying you need to be online in order to play, hit X on it and keep trying to sign in. You will bypass it by the 7 attempt max, hope that helps.
