You can actually disassemble a .dll in the PC version of Call Of Duty 4 to see all the cvars. Some of these variables contains a double dash like this:

//set example ' '(int main else void)

meaning it's experimental,used with other resources of the game,encrypted in another .dll,or just not what you think it is.

These lined functions will freeze or prevent other variables from working due the fact of encryption disassemble or missing file/resources.
