How to install custom patches?

Once upon a time...

NextGenUpdate

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So if i install a custom patch on Cod4 i wont be able to take it online? or is it okay to install a patch and take it online w/o jailbreaking it??

w/ Jailbreak: you can go online
w/o Jailbreak: you cant go online or even put the patch on a ps3
