Post: Skill Based Matchmaking Stupidity
12-05-2012, 05:45 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I honestly can't stand the skill based matchmaking system. This was one of the worst ideas in

any COD game yet. First of all, why would you want to play against opponents at the same skill

level as you? Nobody wants to do that I don't care what you say, playing scrubs and doing

amazing was half the fun in COD. Now, having to try extra hard and constantly play tryhards is

annoying. Not only do we have to play against tryhards. This is mainly the cause for the constant

shitty connection. When before it put us in games based on connectivity to the host. Now it puts

us in games based on rank. Makes no sense to me.

For the last time..
Skill based matchmaking is nothing new in Call of duty!

Skill based matchmaking was present in previous titles.

We don't know how much of a factor skill based is in matchmaking it may just be prestige levels over SPM or K.D. Vahn said nothing about it only it was in past games.
Starting to think that is the case because I played against some bad players. Also I doubt that it over rides connection quality.
What we are seeing is more a result of a game with a low skill ceiling. At the same time that changes the metagame because people are abusing anything to be better.

Maybe it a case to make the game harder?

Previous cods searched on level, but that doesn't say much since most of them are hacked. I know mw3 searched for ping and latency to host. But no other cod searched like black ops 2 for games.

We don't know how they are searched or what they have been searched by before.

The bit highlighted in bold is just your assumption.

If you host modded lobby on mw3, sometimes you can see how it searches for games it says..."finding best host....searching for best ping and latency" Plus cod4 and w@w worked on regional match making.

Wrong MW3 did not search on ping/latency alone it part of the reason why the game plays bad.
It used a geolocation tool to search for games on top of ping also did some funny stuff when playing in a party (which was patched out). Which the devs did not come out and say was true until they was forced. They changed some of the matchmaking but it still in a poor state.
Fun fact BO1 started goelocation matchmaking.

COD4/WAW/MW2 and BO2 all use the same ish matchmaking system with some small changes which is ping based.
COD4 matchmaking problems was due to the QoS rating US players higher compared to EU players. (IW never patched that out)
All COD games when searching say looking for game within < 50ms Winky Winky

Clearly the other games weren't connected by rank, it was connection. You can read this article, which say Treyarch is introducing a NEW type of matchmaking. You must login or register to view this content.

Cake is a lie
I think it's funny to call other good players "tryhards." The connection issues on this game are mind numbing is all I know. I don't pretend to know a lot about matchmaking or anything to that degree. However, there is no way in hell the matchmaking in BO2 is the same as older COD games. The fact that many big commentators have spoke about this and even devs have as well says something.

Now it's not like every lobby is full of MLG players now but there is a noticeable decrease in low ranking or terrible kdr players in lobbies. All this is really affecting is win/loss since people rage quit more. Bad players stay during most ass whoopings. A lot of statistically good players tend to back out the minute they see any resistance. Especially without Support killstreaks to throw them a bone.

Problem is you are guessing and I'm too on this subject.
Vahn could be talking about bootcamp from past games or it could had a rank system factoring out prestige in public games or something else we don't know how deep it goes. Skill based matchmaking may be nothing but bootcamp, may not be a factor at all in most playlists.
Problem is his tweet is so vague we don't know what he means.
And that link is talking about league play matchmaking over public games. May want to fact check before posting links like that.
You must login or register to view this content. UAVs are being nerfed < check for the sarcasm.

Starting to think he means just bootcamp and no skill based matchmaking at all.
