Being an engineer and software developer for the largest broadband provider in the UK, I can say I know enough about lag to tell you that it is most certainly NOT an ever-present in every game and that is something I can categorically assure you of.

I didnt say lag was an ever present thing in all games, we are in the Call of Duty Black Ops 2 section after all lol.

And are you really going to sit here and spew out random irrelevent "credentials" and proceed to tell me that lag isnt always present on say ps3, when say 500000-1000000 players are online globally.

Your theory is complete nonsense. The amount of people online does not, in it's self, generate lag.

With the internet, the more people online may slow your speed, but it doesn't mean you will lag with that slower speed. COD lags because it is on user based hosting, i.e. user to user. Most games operate on a user to server basis, so the basic model looks like this;

COD
User <--> User

Most other games
User --> Server <-- User

Therefore, when you play most games, the server will run at a level based on your connection in order to keep the same in sync. So, for example, if you and I play a game, and your speed is 60Mbps and mine is 5Mbps, the server will run our game at 5Mbps to ensure you don't get an advantage. On COD, this doesn't happen and they instead use their own lag compensation which results in stupid things like where I have seen a throwing knife go past my head, but yet I drop dead a few seconds later, supposedly from that very same throwing knife. But that's not because of my connection to the internet being bad or slow.

Honestly, i like to piss about with the other team most times but whenever the guy(s) that im messing with start to get cocky and think they're the best player(s) ever just because i've been running around them in circles with a knife on SnD and they managed to kill me. I go crazy and switch on super sweat mode, i play with friends and they hate it when i start to play serious but that's just how it has to be xD.
