However since the new melee weapons got added im wondering if i need to grind out them aswell cause i got a monkey wrench out of a box. So do i only need to grind the original weapons or do i have to do the monkey wrench too to unlock it?

You only need to work on the knife and get it gold. That should get you diamond for all the melee weapon. You don't have to get gold on all three of the new melee weapons.

if you have Black Market weapons you will have to earn gold on those weapons aswell in order to get darkmatter.
