This thread will contain everything from rumours, to confirmed things, coming in the form of characters, to multiplayer information. Reason behind this is I have seen many threads going on about rumours, and things like that, so I thought I'd add a sense of clarification to the forum, and clear everything up.

If you have anything to add, please refrain from posting on the thread, instead private message me, and I'll see to it. The reason being I just want to keep the thread organised, and so nothing seems out of place.

Furthermore, everything will be placed into spoilers, so you can pick and choose what you see, don't want to be spoiling anything for everyone, so anyway, enough chat, let's get on with it.

SOG (Studies and Observations group):
You must login or register to view this content.

The Studies and Observation Group (SOG) was a highly classified, multi-service United States special operations unit which conducted covert unconventional warfare operations prior to and during the Vietnam War.

North Vietnamese Army (NVA):
You must login or register to view this content.

The Vietnam People's Army (Vietnamese: Quân Đội Nhân Dân Việt Nam, variously translated as Vietnamese People's Army and People's Army of Vietnam) is the armed forces of Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, the army was referred to as the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) or the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN). This allowed writers, the US Military, and the general public, to distinguish northern communists from the southern communists, or Viet Cong. However, northerners and southerners were always under the same command structure. According to Hanoi's official history, the Vietcong was a branch of the PAVN.

The VPA includes: the Vietnamese People's Ground Forces (including VPA Strategic Rear Forces and Border Defense Forces), the Vietnam People's Navy (including VPN Marine Corps), the Vietnam People's Air Force, and the Vietnam Marine Police.

Sergeant Frank Woods is one, if not the main non-playable character in the game. He is part of the SOG team, which is the Studies and Observations group, however we are told that he will not be a part of this team all throughout the campaign. Some strange trivia is that Woods is believed to be ambidextrous as he is the using the Car-15 in both his right, and left hand.

Hudson:
You must login or register to view this content.

Special Agent Hudson is a SOG operative, and one of the main playable roles. Hudson is a Vietnamese war Spec Ops soldier, and appears in the mission WMD.

Mason:
You must login or register to view this content.

Mason is a SOG operator, and one of the main playable characters. He appeared during E3, as the main playable character during the mission Victor Charlie. He was also saw appearing during the mission Payback.

Resnov:
You must login or register to view this content.

Thomas:
You must login or register to view this content.

Thomas is a playable character, who we are believed to only see once, during the mission WMD, where you control the SR-71 Blackbird. He is the highest ranked playable character.

Weaver:

Weaver is one of the non-playable characters, however is in a squad, with a playable character. He is part of this whilst infiltrating a soviet base during the mission WMD.

Swift:

Swift is another non-playable character. Again, part of the SOG. He appears in the mission Victor Charlie, and although we cannot be sure, we presume he is killed by a Vietcong guerilla.

Brooks:
You must login or register to view this content.

Brooks first appears in the mission WMD. This is when infiltrating a Soviet Union base in 1968. Brooks is then seen later, strangling a Russian solider, then throwing him away.

Harris:

The player will start in an SR-71 Blackbird. They will then guide four other soldiers through a facility from the air, afterwhich the perspective will switch to one of the soldiers on the ground, in a manner similar to an RTS game. It is set in 1968, at the height of the Cold War. In this level the player can obtain a new weapon, the Crossbow. Starting off in this level, you're suited up and ready to pilot the Blackbird which sits on a runway in California. After approaching the vehicle, you're saluted and begin to board the plane. After requesting for takeoff, the player is told "Your aircraft sir". The pilot (the player) is then prompted to press a control to engage the boosters, then must pull back on the thumbstick to begin the ascent. After a short cinematic of Big Eye 6 in orbit, the screen cuts to a first person view of the cockpit.

The view is that of a heatmap screen where the four man team (Kilo 1 - SOG) can be seen prone in the snow. Your job is to assist them past any enemy troops that may be present. After providing them with recon, the screen fades, and you're then put into the boots of Hudson, one of the members of the black ops patrolmen on the ground.

This is where we first got a peek at the modified crossbow. The player lies prone in the snow with his squadmates on his flanks. Power lines can be seen in the distance. Heavy breathing can be heard, provoked by the frigid climate of the Ural Mountains. At that moment, a group of Russian soldiers on patrol slowly creep by to north. Their cold breath can be seen in the air, their boots crunching the snow beneath them. Luckily, SOG is not detected and the troops continue on their path.

The objective is to make way to a substation. The point of interest is that of a weapons manufacturing facility, obviously not a facility that one wishes to inhabit. Making their way down the snowy trails, SOG is met with their first enemies. Shouldering the crossbow, the player picks off any targets while remaining completely silent. Continuing further down, the player is then required to hook up and rappel down the steep face of a mountain. After hooking up your ropes and beginning your descent, several members of the team are required to push off of the mountain and put the brakes on several times before finally making it to the landing below. Shooting through the facility's windows with silenced AUG prototype rifles, SOG is immediately met by a hoard of Russian soldiers. Once the substation is taken, the objective is updated and the player is asked to move to the "com-stat".

Going further down the mountain, SOG soon meet a group of enemies that require a bit more firepower. Switching over to explosive tips on the modified crossbow, the enemy never has a chance. One enemy is shot directly in the leg, in return exploding not only him but a few of his comrades. After taking out the enemy troops and taking the storage shed, the player moves onto the power room.

Alarms are sounding, enemy chatter can be heard. Switching to an assault rifle, you head towards the power room. Moving behind your teammate, he opens a door and is immediately met face to face with an enemy, resulting in the teammate killing the enemy with a throwing knife, in the neck. Making headway through the facility, the opposition is heavy. Chaos ensues, but only shortly as SOG makes short work of the enemies inside the facility. Moving to the objective, the player find the relay and yanks the fuses from the box, rendering the station useless. Objective complete.

Once SOG have cleared the mountain and completed the objective, jumping across opening crevices persues, and the player follows the team to what is hoped to be safety, before a Russian troop fires an RPG at the face of the cliff, resulting in a large avalanche. As the snow rushes behind, SOG have no choice but to jump.

Payback:
You must login or register to view this content.

This mission is most likely after Victor Charlie. It has been mentioned that this mission continues after the player and Woods have escaped from a prison. The player is given a CAR-15 Commando with a grenade launcher, and will have to steal a Hind from some Russian encampment. Before the player attacks the player can hear the soldiers mention Kravtchenko. After the player kills them, they will climb into the cockpit with Frank, who will assist the player as the gunner. Then, the player will provide top cover for a squad on the ground through heavily occupied enemy territory. The player will engage other helicopters. Frank will assist the player using the Hind's gunner seat and the squad on the ground will help take out RPGs. It's possible that the helicopter crashes at the end, in the teaser trailer it appears that there is an explosion seen outside the cockpit, and the helicopter starts to spin, and will crash into the Hue river.

Victor Charlie:

This mission is part stealth but ends in action. This is the longest mission so far in Black Ops.

According to the Official XBOX Magazine, the player must kill two Viet Cong soldiers after the soldiers have killed the pilot and the co-pilot of the helicopter. The player must then get out of the wreckage and swim underwater to a fishing boat, manned by more Viet Cong. The player will then fire at the other soldiers after having killed the soldier in the boat. According to OXM, the mission now takes a more stealthy twist. The player, with a partner, sneaks into a hut and kills two sleeping soldiers. They then proceed to place C4 on the bottom of the huts. Your partner (Woods) tells you to pick up a unknown handgun (which has a silencer and a tactical knife). When you leave the base you come across 2 more soldiers looking away. When you knife both of them, a team member is seen walking with the enemy. When you are asked to follow him, one of the soldiers you knifed drags you down a ditch. It seems that the character can't move well and limps for the rest of the mission. The player then finds himself pinned down by a machine gun turret. He picks up an M202 Rocket Launcher, and proceeds to destroy huts, passing boats, Viet Cong soldiers, and the turret. The player and his crew then arrive at a "hole," before Woods gives you a flashlight and says, that "We'll find Kravtchenko". In this part you hold a pistol with a flashlight in your other hand in a tacknife position. Reznov then drops in and goes around the other side. Swift goes ahead and gets stabbed by an enemy soldier. After the player kills 2 more Viet Cong, he climbs up a ladder, and out of the tunnel. Him and Woods arrive at an enemy encampment that has a Hind in it, starting the mission "Payback".

Slaughterhouse:
You must login or register to view this content.

The player (Mason) starts off in a "Huey" helicopter, preparing to rappel into the city with the objective of securing a CIA headquarters which has been overrun by the North Vietnamese Army. While rappeling from the helicopter, it is shot down by enemy fire. Still clinging to the rope, the player and his squadmate, Woods, are able to smash through a window of a multi-story building. Dazed by those events, the player rises to his feet and is given a SPAS-12 shotgun equipped with Dragon's Breath ammunition by Woods. Making their way to the objective, the player encounters several Vietnamese troops, all of which are set aflame by the player's Dragon's Breath ammunition.

Receiving assistance from friendly choppers, machine guns rain fire through windows quickly eliminating any enemies caught in the fire. Intensity is high, and mixing in civilians throughout the building requires quick thoughts and reactions by the player to minimize their casualties.

Once the player has made their way into the urban streets, a Vietnamese soldier can be heard over a loudspeaker system:

"American soldiers, put down your weapons! This is not your war. We do not wish you harm."

Outside, the player approaches a group of Marines and takes over their radio transmitters. Requesting assistance from the sky, he is then tasked with the job of designating buildings to be fired upon by the helicopters. While fighting through the streets, the player is able to provide recon to the choppers who soften enemy resistance. Later on in the level, the player is tasked with escorting an APC named "Bottom Feeder" through the city streets. The preview ends with the player fighting off Vietnamese soldiers on the streets.

AK-47:
You must login or register to view this content.

The AK-47 is commonly seen being carried by Viet Cong, North Vietnamese Army, and Soviet soldiers in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

CAR-15 Commando:
You must login or register to view this content.

The CAR-15 Commando is an assault rifle that will appear in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It has so far only been seen being used by Frank Woods and Mason, Studies and Observations Group members.

AUG:
You must login or register to view this content.

The AUG is an assault rifle that is set to appear in the upcoming game Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is used by the members of SOG and has been seen with Arctic Camouflage, a Swarovski Scope, and a Silencer.

G11:
You must login or register to view this content.

The Heckler & Koch G11 prototype was way ahead of it's time, featuring a caseless type of ammunition that is half the weight of that of the Colt M16. The rifle featured a 45-round magazine that was mounted on top of the weapon right above the barrel. This assault rifle was never mass produced, but it fits the Black Ops exclusiveness of the S.O.G. and time line perfectly.

MP5K:
You must login or register to view this content.

The MP5K is set to appear in Call of Duty: Black Ops as a prototype variant that was first produced in 1976. It is equipped with a foregrip which is only featured on the prototype variant.

RPK:
You must login or register to view this content.

It was first seen in the reveal trailer for the game. In-game screenshots appear to show that the weapon uses a forty round magazine and a bipod. Not much else is currently known.

Crossbow:
You must login or register to view this content.

The Crossbow is speculated to fulfill the role of a quiet, long range weapon. It appears in the campaign mission WMD, which is set in the Ural Mountains, 1968. The crossbow can fire different types of bolts, such as normal or explosive bolts. The in-game crossbow is military-grade and can attach a scope, which the player can steady much like a sniper rifle; you can also zoom in by clicking the right analog stick (as seen in the E3 demo). It is currently unknown if the Crossbow will appear in other missions. In the uncut reveal trailer, it seems to be fairly accurate when fired from the hip, as the player hits an enemy who is in the middle of the screen, without aiming down the scope.

SPAS-12:
You must login or register to view this content.

The SPAS-12 will appear in the upcoming game Call of Duty: Black Ops, although it's name is now just the SPAS. It has the stock in folded position. It appears to be pump-action due to the fact that the characters seen in the Black Ops demo for WMD, the player pumps it when they pick it up . The SPAS will be able to use Dragon's Breath (incendiary) shotgun shells.

In the Black Ops uncut reveal trailer, Woods is seen giving the player a SPAS-12.

M1911:
You must login or register to view this content.

An M1911 with "Sally" engraved on it is seen at the end of both the two trailers for Call of Duty: Black Ops. There is a total of eight tally marks along its barrel.

.357 Magnum:
You must login or register to view this content.

The .357 Magnum returns in Black Ops, albeit with a different look. It was seen at an E3 stage demo, paired with a Flash Light. It was held similarly to how you would hold a Tactical Knife. Players will use the magnum-flashlight combo while clearing underground tunnels, presumably during the level Victor Charlie. It could also be noted that the sound of the reload was similar, if not the same, as the .357 Magnum from Call of Duty: World at War.

M202 "Grim Reaper":
You must login or register to view this content.

The M202 is set to appear in the mission "Victor Charlie," where the player must use it to destroy huts. It seems unlikely that it will appear in multiplayer without some serious modification for balancing issues, since it can fire up to four rockets in rapid succession before reloading. However, it could be one of the last rocket launchers to be unlocked, thus making it more difficult to obtain.

RPG-7:
You must login or register to view this content.

We have seen the RPG-7 in previous Call of Duty's, it is basically the same.

Swarovski Scope:
You must login or register to view this content.

Silencer:

In the teaser trailer for the game, a Suppressor is seen on an AUG. Another one is seen attached to a MAC-10 in game art featured in Official Xbox Magazine.

M203 - An underbarrel 40mm grenade launcher, designed for the M16 and the M4, though avaliable to attach to almost all assualt rifles in game
GP-25 - An underbarrel 40mm grenade launcher, designed for the AK-47 and its variants, though only available for the AK-47 in game

Dragon's Breath:

No information on this yet, all we know is that the SPAS-12 will be capable of using this.

M67:

The same frag we have always known, but we cannot tell if it will continue to be under-powered, or if it will be raised back to it's normal self.

Not much on this either, possibly the same as from WaW, unsure.
