Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling put the kibosh on the rumors with this tweet:
"Modern Warfare 2 subscription plan rumors going around. For the record, nobody has to pay to play COD or MW2 multiplayer, nor will they."
And Treyarch's Josh Olin further nailed the coffin shut with this one:
"No, you will not have to 'Pay to Play' #CODBlackOps Multiplayer either. Rumor -> Squashed."
Bam! There you have it. At least in the near future, no one at Call of Duty plans to charge for multiplayer

There was a picture I saw a while ago with a ton of Kotick quotes on what he wanted to change, alot of those have come true and pay to play was also on that list (as was a higher retail price > MW2). Robert Bowling might say we won't have to pay to play but I'm 100% sure we will because of people like Kotick who want more then 5 cars and don't care about other peoples wallet.

I can't see Activision charging for multiplayer, they would lose a lot of users.

yea dude I know what you mean, I would most likely stop playing CoD. I could see activision doing that though because they are money grubbers.
