The ominous membership rumor, finally brought down...

For those of you worried about the rumor regarding a pay-to-play service on Call of Duty: Black Ops, this should shed some light on things.

One of the biggest things that brought fear to Call of Duty gamers was a video showing possible proof that Activision was planning on establishing fees for their Call of Duty titles. Here's the video:

[ame=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Nz_BJe8rDY]YouTube - Evidence that Activision planned to charge subscription fees for Call of Duty?[/ame]

Firstly, how would Activision or Infinity Ward let such a video be released? There's no doubt that if it was true, it would have been taken off of the internet very quickly as have leaked videos in the past. Granted it's almost been a month, it's obvious the Call of Duty developers aren't very concerned about it being on the internet.

Many have claimed that it would be a beta version that messed up. That would make perfect sense, if a beta even existed! If you don't believe the fact that there is no beta, check Josh Olin's Twitter announcement You must login or register to view this content..

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 subscriptions?

There has also been a rumor that Activision and Infinity Ward plan to establish fees for the already released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. To finish that one off, Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward's Community Manager, mentioned that it was only a rumor in You must login or register to view this content. tweet. To reassure the public with more than a tweet, Robert Bowling posted about the matter on his blog You must login or register to view this content..

Back to Black Ops...

Returning to the Black Ops rumor concerning a pay-to-play service, this rumor has also been squashed by Josh Olin. You can find his tweet concerning the matter You must login or register to view this content..

Alongside this statement made by Josh Olin, all companies involved mentioned that subscription fees will never be applied to Call of Duty titles.

There is only one thing that benefits this rumor, and that would be the well-known statement that really got people fired up against Activision:

Chances are, granted Activision knows how their community feels about such a change, it will not happen.

The wrap up...

I myself was worried about this possibility when it was initially brought up. All of the above information should give you peace of mind about the rumors, and the likelihood that a subscription service isn't something we'll be seeing in the Call of Duty series for the time to come.

There was no chance the Black Ops were going to charge us from the start since i'm pretty sure Xbox live is contracted to Black ops for early game releases and the right to play multiplayer + if this was the case then treyarch can say goodbye to their expected sales not to mention they will be releasing additional content in the future which will also cost.

Thanks for the confirmation anyway Schaff!
