Post: Activision spending more on Call of Duty Black Ops than Modern Warfare 2

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, has stated that Black Ops will be receiving the “biggest ever investment” for a single title release. We’ve already posted earlier that Black Ops has surpassed MW2 in Pre-Order sales, will this marketing deployment give it a chance to beat the overall record-breaking sales of 12 million units? I have to say I’m leaning towards yes. According to Kotaku, World at War sold 11 million units. So MW2 didn’t necessarily blow WaW out of the water in sales.

One of the selling points of this new game will be their Co-Op mode. Everyone has been trying to hunt down information to know what we will have in store for the next Call of Duty game, Black Ops, in terms of Co-Ops. So far, we just hear a lot of speculation and rumors. Nothing solid other than the Co-Op experience will be something that we’ve never seen before. I believe the Co-Op alone will bring in a million sales. Zombies was a smash hit and had people who bought the game strictly for Zombies.

You also have a huge amount of sales that come from Single Player story mode. One of my friend’s father buys the Call of Duty games just for the Single Player mode. It definitely attracts a large and diverse fan base, and from what we’ve seen so far the Single Player looks awesome. We’ve all seen Jimmy Fallon playing the Demo, which looked completely bad ass, and is only a small part of the game.

The main selling point, and why this game has been so successful in the past, will be the online multi-player. For everyone who actually tries to be good at Call of Duty, and not just noob-tube and glitch every chance they can, we’re hoping Black Ops is similar to World at War. MW2 was definitely a very spammy game. The glitches were constantly rotating, the Scavenger Perk with almost every Assault Rifle allowing a noob-tube, and of course the ever-growing RPG phase.. I believe a lot of players have given up on Call of Duty as of now. Most of my die-hard Call of Duty friends stopped playing completely after Modern Warfare 2 because of how spammy it has always been. This will make or break the Black Ops sales.

If Modern Warfare 2 ruined the reputation of Call of Duty (which it has to some of my friends), Black Ops might not have a fighting chance. Like i’ve mentioned before though, there is still a considerately large amount of people still playing World at War (which are almost all guaranteed Black Ops Sales). I’m guessing with the Pre-Orders higher than any other Call of Duty, and the marketing being pushed behind it, the new Call of Duty, Black Ops, has a very good chance of being the #1 most sold video game in history. Go Treyarch. Win back our hearts.
